If you love these tortilla chips, be sure to pair them with: fresh salsa, instant pot mexican corn dip, easy queso, and cream cheese salsa dip!
If I could only eat one thing for the rest of my life, it would chips and salsa.
They’re crunchy. They’re salty. And hellloooo salsa has veggies in it, so chips and salsa is practically a health food. 😉
9 times out of 10, I only go to a Mexican restaurant for the margs, chips and salsa.
Seriously. Give me a couple baskets and I’m good to go.
I’ve always wanted to make my own chips at home, so I finally took the plunge.
I got out my trusty air fryer and a few tortillas and went to work.
Air Fryer Tortilla Chips . . .
You do NOT disappoint.
Because I knew you guys might ask, I DID test these air fryer tortilla chips with three kinds of tortillas:
- Corn
- Flour
- Low carb
How do you make tortilla chips in an airfryer with no oil?
It’s easy! Just use a little cooking spray instead of brushing with oil. You can omit the cooking spray as well, but they may not get as crispy.
- Pre-heat air fryer to 350 degrees F
- Cut tortillas into little bite sized rounds using a round cookie cutter – I used a thin corn tortilla, but I’d play around with a few varieties to see what you like
- Spray rounds with cooking spray on both sides
- Sprinkle each side with salt
- Set aside
- Spray air fryer basket with cooking spray
- Place rounds in a single layer (you can make about 9 chips at a time)
- Air fry for about 4-6 minutes, flipping halfway through, or until chips are cooked to your liking
That’s it! Is that not SO easy.
Yeah. It might be a little time consuming, but they’re delicious, and honestly SO easy to make.
Can i make low carb tortilla chips in an air fryer?
My biggest question was if I could use low carb tortillas to make chips. The answer is complicated.
Can you? Yes.
Do they taste good? Ehhhh. They’re OK. They’re not bad, but they were my least favorite out of the three (corn and flour being the other two).
I’d recommend giving them a try, but they’re definitely drier and more crumbly, versus a little chewy, crispy, and crunchy.
That being said, I only tried with ONE brand of low carb tortillas, so let me know in the comments below if you have success!
You’ll follow the same instructions as listed above.
Can i make flour tortilla chips in an air fryer?
Yes! They’re not as crispy as corn tortillas, but they’re chewier and I kinda love it. Again, you’ll follow the same instructions as listed above.
How do you make baked tortilla chips?
This will definitely be it’s own post some day, but basically you’ll:
- Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees F and line a baking sheet with a silicone baking mat
- Cut tortillas into little bite sized rounds
- Spray rounds with cooking spray on both sides
- Sprinkle each side with salt
- Place in a single layer onto prepared baking sheet
- Bake for 4-7 minutes, flipping halfway through, or until perfectly golden brown and crispy
Baked tortillas are pretty darn good, but I still really do prefer air fryer tortilla chips!
You’ll only need two tools today!
- An air fryer <– I love this one
- A small round cookie cutter <– it’s the second to smallest one in this bundle. I use the other sizes for SO many other recipes (cookies, mini tacos, etc)
So what do you think? Will you give these a try?
They’re crispy (or a little chewy), salty, and SO easy.
Move over restaurant chips and salsa, there’s a new sheriff in town!
