Paul Pierce
Having played 19-seasons in the NBA, Paul Pierce is primarily remembered for his days with the Boston Celtics. A high school McDonald’s All-America, Pierce also earned consensus first-team All-America honors during his time at the University of Kansas.
Having been drafted by the Boston Celtics with the 10th overall pick in the 1998 NBA draft, he was nicknamed “the Truth” by Shaquille O’Neal and would spend his first 15-seasons with the team.
And standing in at 6’7″, Pierce, alongside Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen would form a “Big Three” for the Celtics and would lead the team to two NBA Finals and an NBA championship in 2008, in which Pierce would be named the NBA Finals Most Valuable Player.
Kawhi Leonard
Currently playing for the Los Angeles Clippers, Kawhi Leonard is a two-time NBA champion and a five-time All-Star, with three All-NBA First Team selections.
With superior ball handling skills, Kawhi Leonard has been nicknamed the “Claw”.

Julius Erving
Julius Erving, or more commonly known by his nickname of Dr. J, was born in East Meadow, New York on February 22, 1950. He received the nickname “Doctor” or “Dr. J” from a high school friend named Leon Saunders, stating,
“I have a buddy—his name is Leon Saunders—and he lives in Atlanta, and I started calling him “the professor”, and he started calling me “the doctor”. So, it was just between us…we were buddies, we had our nicknames, and we would roll with the nicknames. …And that’s where it came from.”
Erving enrolled at theUniversity of Massachusettsin 1968. In two varsitycollege basketballseasons, he averaged 26.3 points and 20.2 rebounds per game, becoming one of only six players to average more than 20 points and 20 rebounds per game inNCAA Men’s Basketball. He then sought “hardship” entry into professional basketball in 1971.
Erving won three championships, fourMost Valuable PlayerAwards, and three scoring titles with the ABA’sVirginia SquiresandNew York Nets(now the NBA’s Brooklyn Nets) and the NBA’sPhiladelphia 76ers.
During his 16 seasons as a player, none of his teams ever missed the postseason. He is the eighth-highest scorer in ABA/NBA history with 30,026 points (NBA and ABA combined).

Luka Dončić
Luka Dončić currently plays for the Dallas Mavericks and represents the Slovenian national team. He is one of the most adept NBA players and shooters and frequently switches between playing the point guard and small forward positions.
Born in Ljubljana, Slovenia, he began playing organized basketball at the age of 7. Drafted to the NBA in 2018, he was selected by the Atlanta Hawks with the 3rd overall pick and promptly traded to the Mavericks.
In his tenure so far, he is a 3-time NBA All-Star, a 2-time All-NBA First-Team, and an NBA Rookie of the Year.
In addition, Dončić is just one of a handful of NBA players who speak multiple languages and he is fluent in English, Slovenian, Spanish, and Serbian.
Jimmy Butler
Born in Houston, Texas, Butler’s father left the family when he was an infant. In addition, when he was just 13 years old, his mother kicked him out of the house. Butler recalls that his mother simply told him, “I don’t like the look of you. You gotta go.”
He then bounced between the homes of various friends, staying for a few weeks at a time before moving to another house.
However, as an ultimate act of kindness, Butler maintains a close relationship with his parents, saying, “I don’t hold grudges. I still talk to my family. My mom. My father. We love each other. That’s never going to change.”
Currently, Jimmy Butler plays for the Miami Heat and is a six-time NBA All-Star, a four-time All-NBA Team honoree, a five-time NBA All-Defensive Team honoree, and an Olympic gold medalist, having won a gold medal in 2016.
Having been drafted by the Chicago Bulls with the 30th overall pick in the 2011 NBA draft, Butler would be named the NBA’s Most Improved Player in 2015 and has been instrumental in the Heat’s recent successes.
Carmelo Anthony
A current member of the Los Angeles Lakers, Carmelo Anthony was part of the storied 2003 NBA draft, which included the likes of LeBron James, Dwayne Wade, and Chris Bosh. Having played college basketball at Syracuse, he helped lead the team to a national championship as a freshman in 2003 while being named the NCAA Tournament’s Most Outstanding Player.
During the NBA’s 75th anniversary, he was named one of the 75 Greatest Players in NBA History and is widely regarded as one of the greatest scorers and players in the history of basketball.
