When it comes to vinyl wrapping, a heat gun is definitely the better option over a hairdryer. A hairdryer puts out more heat, which can cause the vinyl to warp or even melt. Furthermore, a hairdryer doesn't have the same level of precision as a heat gun. This can lead to bubbles or wrinkles in the vinyl wrap.

If you are removing labels/stickers, removing candle wax, or similar tasks then a hair dryer can be used instead of a heat gun. However, if you use it regularly for these sorts of tasks it will quickly overheat and become damaged because of course, this is not the purpose of its design.

But in a circ*mstance where you do not even have any heat gun available, you can cut the panel a bit back short instead of wrapping it right to the edge of the mirror, and apply Mold n' Hold strip around its edge. By doing this, you will get the same result as if you have post-heated the film.

But for the sections where there are recessed areas and where the film was stretched, skipping post-heating can lead to an irreparable result and costly re-do. For instance, the vinyl wrap film on the front bumper will start lifting over time without post-heating. Moisture and dirt will get in and build up there.

Ultimately, using a hairdryer for vinyl wrapping is not a good idea. It's much better to invest in a good quality heat gun. This will ensure that the vinyl wrap goes on smoothly and looks great. Plus, you'll be less likely to experience any problems with warping or melting.

Use A Hairdryer

You can use a normal hairdryer as if it was a heat gun to activate your heat shrink. It will take a lot longer than using a heat gun, especially if you only have a basic hairdryer. Hold the hair dryer as close as possible to the heat shrink and crack it up to its hottest setting.

Use the wet wrap method if you are using transparent or translucent vinyl. You should avoid wet wrap application if you can use the dry method.

Most HTV applications can be dried on low to normal dryer settings, but we definitely recommend following the individual dryer instructions for each type of HTV. Some may need to be hung to air dry.
